Internal mobility | Amy
3 words to sum-up your internal mobility?
Amy: Growth. Support. Challenge.
What has been your career path at D-EDGE?
Amy: I started back in 2016 as a Technical Writer and when the merge Fastbooking - Availpro happened, we became 2 Writers with D-EDGE and shortly after that, we took on e-learning and had a new person join the team. In 2022, I became the Director of Knowledge Management, which I've been holding since that time with e-learning and help content and now we're looking forward to new adventures with working more closely with the Training team and doing more of face-to-face training as well.
If you had to explain your new role to a 5-years-old in one sentence, what would it be?
Amy: You know when you go to school and you need to learn about something and there's maybe some books or some videos or you have a teacher who explains things to you. Well, I work with a team of people who helps to create that content for D-EDGE customers to know how to use our products. The only difference is we don't have books, all of our content and our videos and things are online!
What factors have favored your internal mobility?
Amy: I've been really fortunate with the managers I've had at D-EDGE who have supported me along my career journey. They've given me advice and guided me while at the same time giving me the autonomy to develop the team and the vision of the team over the years. But also, I would say I have a really great team behind me! So right now, with 5 people reporting to me as Director of Knowledge Management, I couldn't do all of the things that I do without the team working behind me and creating all of the content that they do. They support me and it's great they support each other as well!
What key skills did you develop in your past job and how do you think they are helping you in your new role?
Amy: As a Technical Writer, it's important to be able to look at the details of the things that you're writing but also being able to understand how that content fits into the big picture and I think that's a really important skill as my career has grown to be able to look at the details but also being able to see what's going on in the big picture at the company.
What impact has this internal mobility had on your professional and persona life?
Amy: Well, it's always nice to be recognised and at D-EDGE, I think I've had a lot of recognition. You know, I've changed position a number of times and I've had my team grow over the years. So, that's obviously very rewarding but I would also say that personally it's allowed me to feel more confident in my abilities, in my knowledge, in what I can do and what I can accomplish!
What advice would you give to your colleagues?
Amy: Be productive. Be a problem solver. Don't be afraid to learn new things or to find out answers and to investigate things for yourself. But also: communicate! A number of years ago, I had a boss tell me that being productive was one of my biggest strengths and it was a thing that would always serve me well in any job that I had and now as years have gone by, I still agree with that advice but I would add to it that now it's important to make sure that you gather the data for what you're being productive on so that you can show what you're doing and the impact you're having on the company and then of course making sure that you're communicating about that with your colleagues and your managers and the company.
